GTS1041A - 10 In. Portable Jobsite REAXX Table Saw

The Bosch GTS1041A is a portable table saw manufactured by Bosch.

The machine is powered by a 1800 watt brushed eklectric motor from a power outlet.

As a result of a patent dispute with SawStop this product was taken off the market by Bosch.

Reaxx safety system

The Bosch Reaxx table saw has a safety system that can detect when the saw blade touches human skin like a finger. The detection works based on the electric conducivity of the material. Where human skin is more conductive than dry wood. This means that the system can also be triggered unintentionally by other conductive materials like specific metals or wet wood.

When the saftey system is triggered the saw blade will retract downwards very quickly in order to minimize the injury. The saw will still cause a small wound but should prevent the user from losing any fingers.

The blade retraction is activated using a cartridge that can be used twice before it has to be replaced. The cartridgge contains two pressurized gas cannisters that can be rapidly released simular to the system that airbags in cars use. The saw blade will not be damaged when the system is triggered.

Patent dispute

The REAXX table saw was first introduced in the USA in 2016. Shortly after that SawStop, which sells a table saw with a similar safety feature filed a patent lawsuit against Bosch in the USA.

Although the mechanism for retracting the saw blade is different between the saws the detection of contact with skin is based on the same principles. A judged ruled in favor of some of SawStop's claims of patent infringment with the result of Bosch no longer selling the REAXX table saw.
