CORE18V 6.3Ah battery

The COERE18V 6.3Ah battery is a battery manufactured by Bosch for 18 volt Bosch Professional products.

In North America Bosch uses the model identifier GBA18V63 for this battery.

The battery pack contains ten 3.6 volt 21700 Lithium Ion cells with a capacity of 3.15 Ah each placed in series of five to produce 18 volt.

This is the first battery pack from Bosch to use the larger 21700 cells as opposed to the standard 18650 cells. To indicate this difference Bosch introduced the name "CORE" but then switched to "PROCORE" for batteries introduced after this one.

Availability

In January 2022 this battery was not found on Bosch's European or American websites. For this reason it as discontinued here.

Specifications like weight were taken from Amazon.com which lists both 1.76 and 1.8 pounds. The more specific amount was used here. At the moment of writing it was not available for sale there and the GBA18V0 was suggested as an alternative.

Exterior

The battery has a black plastic rectangular housing with rounded edges.

On top of the battery is a rail on both sides on which the battery can slide on a tool body or charger backwards. Between the rails are recessed electrical contacts. Marked with "+" (positive) on the left and "-" (negative) on the right.

On top near the front there is a spring loaded latch that secures the battery. A red button on the front of the battery has to be pushed down to release the latch and allow the battery to slide out.

The red bottom has ribs to that act like cooling fins to help dissipate heat faster. The red bottom extends upwards at the front and back.

On the back of the battery is a push button which can be pressed to activate the battery charge indicator next to it that consists out of five green LEDs and stays on a few seconds after pressing the button.
