GSR 18V-110 C hammer drill

Drilling & fastening Cordless 18V Drill

The GSR 18V-110 C is a heavy duty cordless hammer drill manufactured by Bosch as part of the Bosch Professional product line.

The machine has a brushless electric motor that is powered by a 18 volt battery.

With a maximum torque of 110 Nm this machine is suitable for drilling large holes. It not as powerful as the GSR 18V-150 C but is significantly lighter.

Exterior

The machine has dark blue plastic housing with black rubberized parts around the handle for improved grip and along the motor housing to act as bumpers.

The machine has red accents for the controls and logo.

On the bottom of the handle a 18 volt battery attaches by sliding in from the front.

A plastic bit holder for four bits and a metal belt clip can be attached on the left and right side.

Above the battery is a white LED that illuminates the working area. Around it are membrane buttons for electronic angle detection and kickback control.

On front of the handle is a red trigger switch. Above it is a red push button to reverse the direction of rotation on each side.

On top of the housing is a red gear selector switch. In front of that is black mode selector switch are two symbols, one for drilling and one for screwing.

In front of the mode selector is a ring around which the rotatable auxiliary handle is attached.

In front of that is a black clutch setting ring with 25 settings. At the front is a black metal chuck with a maximum opening of 13 mm.

Safety

While the clutch can be used to prevent kickback it may not always be used when doing a job that requires high torque. Since this machine can deliver up to 150 Nm of torque a sudden jam can cause the operator to lose control.

While other high torque drills often come with an auxiliary handle  to provide more control this machine has a kickback control feature that works with an built in accelerator that will detect a sudden twisting motion and then disengage the motor to prevent losing control and potential injury to the operator.

The white LED will flash if kickback control caused the motor to shut down.

Operation

The machine works as a standard drill. It is activated by pressing the variable speed trigger switch. The push button above it can be used to reverse the turning direction or as a trigger lock when the button is centered.

The drill or screwing mode is selected by turning the ring behind it. The resistance of the clutch is adjusted with the ring directly behind the chuck. The clutch is only active in the screwing mode.

The gear can be selected with the sliding switch on top of the body.

Bluetooth connectivity

The drill has a built-in wireless communication module in the handle that uses Bluetooth to connect to the Bosch Toolbox app on a smartphone to adjust some settings.

The module is located behind a round over on the side of the handle. The cover can be opened by twisting it with a coin. The module can be removed so that the machine can also be used in environments where wireless communications are restricted.
