GSB 18V-60 C hammer drill

Drilling & fastening Hammer drill Cordless 18V

The GSB 18V-60 C is a cordless hammer drill manufactured by Bosch as part of the Bosch Professional product line.

The machine has a brushless electric motor that is powered by a 18 volt battery.

According to Bosch this machine has the best power-to-size ratio in the 18V category. With a length of 181 mm the tool body is 19 mm shorter than that of the GSB 18V-28 with has a similar RPM and torque.

Exterior

The machine has dark blue plastic housing with black rubberized parts and red accents.

On the bottom of the handle a 18 volt battery attaches by sliding in from the front.

A plastic bit holder for four bits and a metal belt clip can be attached on the left and right side. Above the battery is a white LED that illuminates the working area.

On front of the handle is a red trigger switch. Above it is a red push button to reverse the direction of rotation on each side.

On top of the housing is a red gear selector switch.

In front of the motor housing is a black mode selector ring with a screw, drill and hammer setting. In front of that is a black clutch setting ring with 20 settings. At the front is a black metal chuck with a maximum opening of 13 mm.

Safety

While the clutch can be used to prevent kickback it may not always be used when doing a job that requires high torque. Since this machine can deliver up to 60 Nm of torque a sudden jam can cause the operator to lose control.

While other high torque drills often come with an auxiliary handle  to provide more control this machine has a kickback control feature that works with an built in accelerator that will detect a sudden twisting motion and then disengage the motor to prevent losing control and potential injury to the operator.

An LED will flash when kickback control caused the motor to shut down.

Operation

The machine works as a standard drill. It is activated by pressing the variable speed trigger switch. The push button above it can be used to reverse the turning direction or as a trigger lock when the button is centered.

The hammer, drill or screwing mode is selected by turning the ring behind it. The resistance of the clutch is adjusted with the ring directly behind the chuck. The clutch is only active in the screwing mode.

The gear can be selected with the sliding switch on top of the body.

Bluetooth connectivity

The drill has a built-in wireless communication module in the handle that uses Bluetooth to connect to an app on a smartphone to adjust some settings.

The module is located behind a round over on on the side of the handle. The cover can be opened by twisting it with a coin. The module can be removed so that the machine can also be used in environments where wireless communications are restricted.
