GWS 18V-10 C angle grinder

18V Angle grinder Cordless Grinding

The GWS 18V-10 C is a cordless angle grinder manufactured by Bosch as part of the Bosch Professional product line.

The machine has a brushless electric motor that is powered by an 18 volt battery.

According to Bosch this machine is as powerful as an 1000 watt corded angle grinder when used with a ProCORE battery.

The machine comes with a wheel guard size that fits a 115 mm disc and is classified as a 115 mm machine here. But other variants of the GWS 18V-10 with the same specifications can also safely use a 125 mm disc when an appropriate sized wheel guard is used.

Exterior

The tool has a blue plastic housing shaped like a rounded rectangular beam that is narrower towards the back.

An 18 volt battery attached to the back and slides in from the bottom. In front of the battery are ventilation inlets on both sides that have a mesh filter covering them.

The handle is the narrowest part of the body and is covered in black rubber on the top and bottom for better grip. On the left side there is a black round cover for the Bluetooth module.

Towards the front of the machine the housing gets wider to accommodate the motor inside. On the left side of the housing a red slide switch that has to be pushed forward to activate the machine.

On the front of the machine is a gray gearbox that is attached to the motor housing with four screws, and can be removed and rotated in 90º increments to make it more suitable for particular applications like left handed use.

On top are some holes that act as ventilation exhaust holes. There are two threaded holes to screw in an auxiliary handle on the left and right side.

On the top side is a red spindle lock button and an arrow that indicates the turning direction.

The position of the gray wheel guard underneath can be adjusted without any tools by pressing a lever under the machine (not visible in picture).

The machine has an M14 threaded spindle with a quick clamping nut that can be removed and tightened by hand.

Operation

The machine is activated by pushing the spring loaded red slide switch forward where it will lock in place. The machine is turned off by pushing the back of the switch where it will spring back to the "off" position.

To replace the cutting disc the spindle lock button has to be pressed. The quick clamping nut has a handle that can be folded out to loosen it.

The wheel guard can be adjusted by moving it to the desired position while pressing a lever on the underside of the body.

Bluetooth connectivity

The machine has a built-in wireless communication module in the handle that uses Bluetooth to connect to the Bosch Toolbox app on a smartphone to adjust some settings.

The module is located behind a black round over on the left side of the handle. The cover can be opened by twisting it with a coin. The module can be removed so that the machine can also be used in environments where wireless communications are restricted.

Safety

The machine has various safety features to protect the operator from injury.

The wheel guard design with toolless adjustability makes it easier to put the guard in the right position and less attractive to remove it completely because less time is spent adjusting it.

The machine has restart protection which is a safety feature that prevents the machine from turning on unexpected when a battery is inserted while the switch is in the "on" position.

The machine has a built in brake will also automatically engage when the machine is turned off manually, or because one of the other safety features triggered a shutdown.

The machine has kickback control which will deactivate the machine if there is a sudden jam and a jerking motion is detected.

On to of that it has "Drop Control" which will deactivate the machine if a built in sensor detects a shock that indicates that he machine has been dropped on the floor.
