2408-20 M12 cordless hammer drill

Cordless Drilling & fastening Hammer drill M12

The 2408-20 is a cordless electric hammer drill driver manufactured by Milwaukee .

It has a brushed electric motor powered by a 12 volt M12 battery.

It is similar to the 2407-20 but adds a hammer setting.

Exterior

The machine has a plastic red body with black rubberized around the handle and edges on all sides.

The handle is placed in the middle of the body for better balance. An M12 battery is inserted in the bottom of the handle. This makes the machine more compact than similar tools where the battery is placed under the handle but also makes the handle wider.

On top of the handle is a black trigger switch with an LED light above it that illuminates the working area. Behind it is a push button to reverse the direction of rotation on each side.

Behind it are four LEDs on the left side that act as a battery charge indicator. Milwaukee calls this the "fuel gauge".

The motor housing has some horizontal ventilation slits near the back side and a metal belt clip that can be placed on either side.

On top of the body is a gear selector slide switch.

In front of the motor housing are two adjustment rings for the work mode and clutch adjustment ring with 18 settings.

At the front is a ratcheting chuck with a black plastic grip.

Operation

The machine is activated by pulling the black variable speed trigger switch. The turning direction can be reversed with the button behind it.

The gear selector on top can switch between low (400 RPM) and high (1500 RPM) gear.

The adjustment ring for the work mode (Milwaukee calls it "application selector") can be set to screwing (clutch enabled), drilling (no clutch) or hammering which means drilling plus hammering for drilling faster in masonry.

The clutch can be adjusted with the clutch adjustment ring. There is no way to deactivate the clutch completely, like with drill drivers that have a dedicated drilling setting.

To remove a bit the collar of the bit holder has to be pulled forward. The collar will remain in forward position until a new bit is pushed in and then snap back in place.
