2520-20 M12 75mm cutting tool

Angle grinder Cordless Grinding M12 FUEL

The 2522-20 is a cordless cutting tool manufactured by Milwaukee. It is part of their high performance FUEL product line.

The machine has a brushless motor and is powered by a 12 volt M12 battery. With a 75 mm (3 inch) cutting wheel it can make cuts up to 16 mm (0.64 inch) deep.

Milwaukee calls it a "compact cut off tool" meant for cutting a wide range of materials and shows the tool being used on metal, concrete and ceramic tiles on their website. The manual also mentions drywall, fiber cement, plastic.

The small wheel diameter, shape of the handle and lack of side handle makes it not very suitable for grinding, and Milwaukee does not advertise it as such. It has been added to the category angle grinders here because angle grinders have many other uses beyond grinding and this tool can do most of them, but on a smaller scale.

Exterior

The machine has a red plastic body with a black rubberized handle. An M12 battery is inserted in the back of the handle.

The motor housing is at the front and and placed at a right angle. Above the word "Milwaukee" is a strip of four LEDs that act as a battery charge indicator. Milwaukee calls this the "fuel gauge".

The motor directly drives the spindle without a gearbox. This is different from most angle grinders where the motor is straight positioned in the body and has a small gear drive a larger gear at an angle.

Around the spindle is a gray adjustable wheel guard.

Not pictured, but also included with the bare tool is a dust shoe assembly which provides additional stability, adjustable depth control and dust extraction facility.

Operation

The machine is activated by pulling the trigger on the bottom of the handle. Above the trigger, on each side there is a push button to reverse the direction of rotation, just like drills usually have. On top there are the markings "R" on the left and "F" on the right to indicate "Reverse" and "Forward". When the switch is placed in between forward and reverse it acts as a trigger lock to prevent accidental activation.

To change the cutting wheel a hex wrench is needed to loosen the bolt on the spindle. A black spindle lock behind the wheel guard  has to be pressed down to keep the spindle from turning.

Above the cutting wheel is a top flange, and below it a bottom flange. Two bottom flanges are included. One for cutting wheels with a hole size of 3/8" and one for cutting wheels with a larger hole of 7/16"
