2445-20 M12 jig saw

Cordless Jig saw M12 Sawing

The 2445-20 is a cordless jig saw manufactured by Milwaukee.

The machine has a brushed electric motor powered by an 12 volt M12 battery.

Milwaukee does not specify the maximum cutting depth for any materials like other manufacturers usually do. But since this is a 12 volt tool it is not meant for long and deep cuts. But with a sufficiently long saw blade and enough patience any jig saw can cut the same depth, the only difference is the speed and accuracy.

Exterior

The housing is made out of red plastic with large parts of the top and handle covered in black rubber.

The shape of the body is unlike other jig saws which are usually have a barrel grip style body with a slide switch on the side or a bow handle grip on top with a trigger switch.

Although this saw looks like a barrel grip body at first sight the motor is actually placed in the front, making the handle small enough for the hand to wrap around and reach a trigger switch on the bottom. Milwaukee calls this a "hybrid grip" because it combines features of both body shapes.

The battery is inserted horizontally in the back of the handle. Just in front of the handle, on the side of the bulge there are four LEDs that act as a battery charge indicator. Milwaukee calls this the "fuel gauge".

At the front there is a bulge with black rubber on top on which a second hand can be placed to apply additional pressure above the saw blade. On the sides if the motor housing there are some horizontal slits for ventilation.

The underside of the body is made out of aluminium, just like the titlable base. There is an integrated LED that illuminates the working area.

Under the base is a removable black plastic shoe that prevents scratching the work piece. At the front of the base a anti splinter guard can be inserted to reduce splinters. It has to be removed when making bevel cuts.

Operation

The machine is activated by pressing the black variable speed trigger switch on the underside of the handle.

Above the trigger is a lock button on each side that prevents the machine from activating. This machine has no lock on button.

Underneath the trigger is a lever that can be loosened to change the angle of the base up to 45º left or right.

On the front of the machine is a lever to eject the saw blade without any tools.
