2737B-20 M18 jig saw

The 2637B-20 is a cordless barrel grip jig saw manufactured by Milwaukee. It is part of their high performance FUEL product line.

The machine has a brushless electric motor powered by an 18 volt M18 battery.

Milwaukee does not specify the maximum cutting depth for any materials like other manufacturers usually do. But with a sufficiently long saw blade and enough patience any jig saw can cut the same depth, the only difference is the speed and accuracy.

Milwaukee does not specify the weight of the machine on their website.

Exterior

The machine has a red plastic housing with part of the top and sides covered in black rubber.  An M18 battery is inserted by sliding it in horizontally at the back of the machine.

The base is made out of aluminium with a removable black plastic shoe on the underside that prevents scratching the work piece. At the front of the base a anti splinter guard can be inserted to reduce splinters. It has to be removed when making bevel cuts.

The base has a dust chute in which the included dust extraction tube can be inserted to connect it to a vacuum.

The machine has an integrated LED to illuminate the working area while cutting. It also comes with an LED cover. The user manual states that is to "shield the LED when the tool is used in certain applications" but does not specify what applications.

A transparent blade cover can be installed at the front, this helps with dust extraction when a vacuum is connected, but has to be removed for bevel cuts.

Operation

The machine is activated by pushing the black slide switch on the side forward/up. 

The speed can be adjusted with a speed selection dial near the back of the body with the number 1 to 6 on which correspond to 800 to 3500 strokes per minute.

To tilt base up to 45º left or right a hex crew on the underside needs to be loosened with the included 4 mm hex key. There are preset indents for 0, 15, 30 and 45º. The manual states that batteries larger than 5.0 Ah should not be used when making bevel cuts as they may touch the work piece. The 2737-20 does not have this limitation and has a lever for titling the base.

On the front of the machine is a lever to eject the saw blade without any tools.

On the side there is an orbital action selector switch with four settings for making faster, but rougher cuts in wood.
