The 10.8 volt battery system from Makita is a discontinued battery system for which tools are no longer produced and not found in stores anymore. Replacement parts and batteries remain available.
The system uses "push-in" style batteries that can fit inside the handle of a power tool, but put some restrictions on the shape ans size of the handle.
The 10.8 volt battery system was replaced by the CXT 10.8V battery system which uses "slide-on" style batteries. This system was later renamed to CXT 12V Max.
The battery packs contain three 3.6 volt 18650 Lithium-Ion cells in series to produce 10.8 volt output. When fully charged the voltage can reach up to 12 volts but while in use it has a nominal rating of 10.8 volt.
