Bosch X-LOCK quick change system

X-LOCK is a quick change system for angle grinders that allows the accessory like a grinding or cutting disk to be quickly replaced.

Traditionally angle grinders have a threaded spindle with a diameter of 10 or 14 mm or 3/8" and 5/8" in North America.

The grinding disc is held in place with a retaining nut. Although some quick change nuts exists many grinders require a special wrench and the nut has to be turned several rotations to loosen it and again to tighten it.

X-lock angle grinders have a release lever that allows that will pop off the accessory and it can the disk can simple be pushed on, similar to how a CD disk can be pressed in a case.

Another benefit of the X-lock system is that the retaining clip is less thick than most retaining nut making it possible to grind at a shallower angle.

Compatibility

X-Lock compatible accessories have a larger hole than traditional accessories so they will fit on regular angle grinders with an M14 spindle.

X-Lock angle grinders cannot use traditional accessories with a round or threaded hole.

History

The first angle grinders using X-Lock were introduced in 2021 by Makita and Bosch. At the same time various partners that will produce X-Lock accessories were announced.
