Makita

The Makita Corporation was established in Japan in the year 1915.

Products for the Makita brand are manufactured in Japan, China, United States, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Romania and the United Kingdom.

Makita manufactures corded and cordless power tools aimed at both consumers and professional users.

Most Makita power tools have Makita's distinct teal color.

Makita MT tools are colored red and are cheaper tools with less "bells and whistles" than the regular Makita tools.

Battery systems

Makita has the following battery systems for a wide range of cordless tools:

  • 10.8V - discontinued system with "push-in" style batteries.
  • CXT 10.8V / 12V Max - system with "slide-on" style batteries that was renamed from 10.8V to 12V Max.
  • LXT 14.4V - system between 12V Max and LXT 18V.
  • 18V - system with a few machines aimed at DIY users.
  • LXT 18V - system with many machines for professional use.
  • LXT 36V / LXT 18V X2 - system that uses a two LXT 18V battery packs together.
  • XGT 40V Max -  system using a single XGT 40V battery pack.
  • XGT 80V Max -  system using a two XGT 40V battery packs together.

Makita model name meanings

All Makita products have a model name. Sometimes the same tool is sold with different accessories or a bundle and gets has a different name. Regional variations like the type of plug can cause a tool that looks the same on first glance to get a name.
