DCD708B drill

Drilling & fastening Drill Cordless 20V MAX

The DCD708B is a cordless drill manufactured by DeWalt.

The machine has a brushless electric motor that is powered by a 20V MAX battery.

According to DeWalt the machine can drill holes up to 1" (25.4 mm) in pine wood and 2 1/2" (63 mm) holes using a hole saw attachment.

Atomic name

On their website DeWalt advertises this drill as "ATOMIC 20V MAX* Brushless Cordless Compact 1/2 in. Drill/Driver". DeWalt does not specify what "ATOMIC" means in this context.

While it is most likely constructed mostly out of atoms it does not appear to be directly powered by a nuclear power source. It is possible to charge the battery with electricity generated by a nuclear reactor this is also true for all other battery powered machines.

There is no indication that this tool is more radioactive than other power tools.

Exterior

The machine body is made out of yellow plastic with large parts, especially around the handle covered in black rubber.

DeWalt classifies this machine as a compact drill/driver. The motor housing is very short and the chuck is attached a short distance in front of the trigger switch.

On the bottom of the handle a 20V MAX battery attaches by sliding in from the front. A  metal belt clip can be attached on the left or right side. Above the battery is a white LED that illuminates the working area.

On front of the handle is a black trigger switch with a black. Above it is a black push button to reverse the direction of rotation on each side. Above that is a clutch setting ring with 15 settings. At the front is a black keyless chuck with a maximum opening of 13 mm.

On top of the housing is a black gear selector switch.

Operation

The machine works as a standard drill. It is activated by pressing the variable speed trigger switch. The push button above it can be used to reverse the turning direction or as a trigger lock when the button is centered.

The resistance of the clutch is adjusted with the ring behind the chuck.

The gear can be selected with the sliding switch on top of the body.
