The HP1631 is a corded electric hamer drill manufactured by Makita.

This model is not listed on Makita's websites but is available in some online stores in Asia and Europe. It shares the user manual with the HP1630 with the only difference being that a depth gauge is included.

The body of the machine is plastic with a "Makita teal" color. The back of the handle is black and rubberized to provide better grip. On the front side of the handle there is black trigger switch to activate the machine. Behind it is a small black round lock on button to lock the trigger in the "on" position without needing to keep pressing it.

A switch to reverse the direction of rotation is located in front of the trigger switch.

On the top of the body near the front is a sliding switch to toggle the hammer mode. The hammer mode allows for faster drilling in masonry like bricks. The manual states the hammer mode should be used for drilling in concrete, grantite.

On the front of the machine a side handle can be attached that can be rotated all the way around.

The metal chuck is keyed and can fit drill bits up to 13 mm in diameter.
