The HP2050 is a corded electric hammer drill manufactured by Makita. The machine is powered by 720 watt brushed motor from an outlet.

Availability

In 2021 this model was not listed on Makita USA's website but the variant HP2050F was. On Makita New Zealand website it is listed as HP2050H which seems to be the same machine as the HP2050.

Exterior

The machine has a pistol grip and a body made out of "Makita teal" colored plastic with a black rubberized back side for better grip.

On the underside of the handle is a loop hole for hanging the machine and a chuck key holder is attached to the power cord.

The front gear housing is made out of aluminum and has a black auxiliary handle with a depth gauge that can be rotated all the way around and is secured by twisting the handle

At the very front is a metal keyed chuck which has a black collar.

Operation

The machine is activated by pressing the black variable speed trigger switch on the handle. There is a speed control dial integrated in the trigger switch. The direction of rotation can be reversed with the a switch above the trigger.

Behind the trigger switch is a round black lock on button.

On the underside of the gear housing is a black knob with the markings I and II to select between low and high gear.

The hammering action can be turned on and off with the action mode slide switch on top of the body.

Safety

The machine has a built in clutch that will protect the operator from kickback when too much torque is applied if the drill bit jams.

On Makita New Zealand's website this drill is listed as HP2050H but the manual does not mention this product number. It may be a designation related to the included accessories.
