HR3200C 32mm rotary hammer SDS Plus

The HR3200C is a corded rotary hammer with a D-handle shaped body manufactured by Makita. It has three operating modes making it a combination hammer.

The machine is powered by 850 watt brushed electric motor.

The C in the model number stands for "constant speed" meaning that the turning speed is electronically controlled and will remain constant even when more pressure is applied.

Exterior

The machine has a D-handle positioned behind the motor housing. The motor is placed vertically in the middle of the machine making it more compact than pistol grip shaped machines.

The housing is mostly black and the only "Makita teal" colored plastic is around the middle of the motor housing.

The rubberized handle has a large black trigger switch on the front.

At the very front there is a black SDS Plus chuck. Behind the chuck is a rotatable auxiliary handle. A depth gauge is attached to the handle.

Operation

Once plugged in a green LED on the back of the motor housing will light up to indicate that there is power. If there is a problem a separate red LED below it will light up.

On top  of the body there is a knob to switch between three operating modes. The knob is recessed and has a lock button that needs to be pushed while changing the setting to prevent unintended change.

There is a fourth setting marked with its own symbol which is allows the operator to adjust the rotation of the inserted bit into 24 different positions. This is useful before using the hammer only mode with chisel bits which need to be in a specific position.

A red dial with 5 settings on the back of the motor housing can be used to adjust the turning speed and number of impacts per minute. At the lowest setting 315 RPM with 1650 impacts per minute are done. At the highest setting it is double that.

The motor is cooled using an internal fan, at lower speeds there is less cooling and can cause the machine to overheat if used for extended periods of time.

Safety

Inside is a torque limiting clutch protects that tool and operator if the bit should jam.

The machine also has a soft start feature to prevent kickback on activation.
