GA5030 125mm 720W angle grinder

Angle grinder Corded electric tools Grinding

The GA5030 is a corded angle grinder manufactured by Makita.

The machine is powered by a 720 watt brushed electric motor. The machine body is similar to the GA4530 but has a 125 mm disc guard instead of 115 mm.

In 2021 this model was found on Makita New Zealand's website but not listed on Makita USA's website.

Exterior

The middle part is Makita teal colored plastic with a black slide switch that is used to activate the machine. On  the back there is black rubber with ventilation inlets on the sides.

On the front of the machine is the gear housing with an aluminium exterior. It has ventilation outlets on top and a black spindle lock button.

At the very front there is an indented arrow that indicates the turning direction. There are threaded holes on the left and right side to attach the side handle.

The gear housing can be unscrewed from the body and attached in four different positions. This is mostly useful for turning the body upside down to put the slide switch on the other side.

Inside the gear housing is a vibration reduction system that Makita calls SJS (Super Joint System) II which absorbs some vibrations from the cutting disc to reduce the intensity of the vibrations passed on to the operator.

On the bottom of the gear housing is a 14 mm spindle or 5/8" in countries where that is more common. The disc is held in place with a lock nut for which a wrench is needed to loosen and tighten it.

The product page of Makita New Zealand shows the model number as GA5030K where the K means that it comes in a carrying case but it may also be sold without one.
