5057KB 185mm dustless circular saw

The 5057KB is a corded electric circular saw manufactured by Makita. The machine is powered by 1400 watt brushed motor from an outlet.

Exterior

The part of the saw blade above the base is encapsulated in a plastic transparent housing that collects sawdust. The container has a door on the back that can be opened to empty it. A vacuum can be attached on the door at the back to extract the dust while working.

The machine has a plastic "Makita teal" colored body. The motor housing has black round slotted covers that provide access to the motor brushes.

The base is made out of aluminium. On the front of the base there are markings that indicate where the cut is at 0 and 45º. Above the markings is a black metal quick release lever to adjust the angle up to 45º.

Safety recall

Makita issued a safety recall for this product. Products with serial numbers from 12541 to 13979 and from 13992 to 14049 were affected by the following defect:

Saw base and blade cover interference when cutting at 45° angle.

When the saw base is adjusted to approximately 45° tilt, the Blade Cover does not open fully and if it is forced open the Blade Cover may become stuck in its open position. No injury has been reported but the exposed blade poses a laceration hazard and risk of injury.
