Metabo 12 volt push-in battery system

0 products

The Metabo 12 volt push-in battery system is used by small number of Metabo power tools.

The battery packs contain three 3.6 volt 18650 Lithium-Ion cells in series to produce 10.8 volt output. When fully charged the voltage can reach up to 12 volts. That is why this battery system, like several others, is marked as 12 volts but actually has a nominal rating of 10.8 volt.

Metabo only lists a few cordless drills and screw drivers for the push-in system on their website. The slide-on system has many more products. It could be that the slide-on system will eventually replace the push-in system completely.

Push-in versus slide-on

The push-in system has the same voltage as the 12 volt slide-on system but since the battery has a different shape they systems are not compatible.

The batteries are shaped in such a way that they can pushed inside the handle of a power tool, making the tool with battery smaller. The downside is that the handle needs to be thicker, which can make the tools less ergonomic for users with small hands. The batteries also may not be optimal for tools that have different shape and no handle to put the battery in.

Availability

The 12 volt push-in system is not mentioned on Metabo's USA website and is therefore assumed to be not available there.
