ProCore 18V 5.5 Ah battery

The ProCORE 18V 5.5 Ah is a battery manufactured by Bosch for 18 volt Bosch Professional products.

The battery pack contains ten 3.6 volt 21700 Lithium Ion cells placed in two series of five to produce 18 volt.

This battery pack has the lowest energy density of all ProCORE batteries.

Availability

In January 2021 this battery pack was listed on Bosch UK's website but not on Bosch USA website.

Considering that Bosch has a 6.0, 6.3 and 8.0 Ah battery with higher capacity and lower or similar weight USA customers are not missing much.

Exterior

ProCORE batteries are fully compatible with all Bosch Professional 18 volt tools but the batteries have a distinct look. To accommodate the larger cells they are slightly wider. They have less red accents and a darker more black color scheme. Although the edges are still rounded the appearance is more angular.

The battery has a black plastic rectangular housing with rounded edges.

On top of the battery is a rail on both sides on which the battery can slide on a tool body or charger backwards. Between the rails are recessed electrical contacts. Marked with "+" (positive) on the left and "-" (negative) on the right.

On top near the front there is a spring loaded latch that secures the battery. A red button on the front of the battery has to be pushed down to release the latch and allow the battery to slide out.

The red bottom has ribs to that act like cooling fins to help dissipate heat faster. The red bottom extends about halfway around the back. On the back is a push button which can be pressed to activate the battery charge indicator next to it that consists out of five green LEDs.
