HR2811F 28mm rotary hammer SDS Plus

Corded electric tools Drilling & fastening Rotary hammer

The HR2811F is a corded rotary hammer with a D-handle shaped body manufactured by Makita. It has three operating modes making it a combination hammer.

The machine is powered by 800 watt brushed electric motor.

On Makita New Zealand's website it was designated as the replacement of the discontinued HR2631FT in 2020. Despite having an equally powerful motor it has a different body shape and higher rated maximum hole size.

Exterior

The machine has a D-handle positioned behind the motor housing. The motor is placed vertically in the middle of the machine making it more compact than pistol grip shaped machines.

On top the handle is attached with a soft material and on the bottom there is a screw indicating that it is a sort of a hinge. This designs reduces the vibrations passed from the machine body to the handle.

The housing is made out of black and "Makita teal" colored plastic. The handle has a large black trigger switch on the front with a small recessed button to reverse the turning direction. The back of the handle is rubberized to provide better grip.

The motor housing in the middle has a white recessed LED on the bottom that illuminates the working area.

At the very front there is a black SDS Plus chuck. Unlike with the HR2811FT the chuck cannot (quickly) be removed.

Behind the chuck is a rotatable auxiliary handle. On the handle is an depth gauge.

Operation

On the side of the body there is a knob to switch between three operating modes. The knob is recessed to prevent unintended changing the mode.

There is a fourth setting marked with a dot which is allows the operator to adjust the rotation of the inserted bit.  This is useful before using the hammer only mode with chisel bits which need to be in a specific position.

Makita New Zealand's website states that there is a recessed lock on button but it is not visible on the pictures or mentioned in the user manual.

Safety

Inside is a torque limiting clutch protects that tool and operator if the bit should jam.
