9564PC 115mm 1400W angle grinder

The 9564PC is a corded angle grinder manufactured by Makita.

In 2020 it was listed ion Makita New Zealand's website as discontinued but in 2021 it was still listed on Makita USA's website.

The machine is powered by a 1400 watt brushed electric motor. Depending on the region it is sold in the cord has an appropriate power plug and voltage rating for 120 and 230 volt outlets.

Exterior

The body is barrel shaped with black rubber on the back and ventilation inlets on the sides.

The middle part is Makita teal colored plastic. The front of the machine is the gear housing and is made out of aluminium. It has ventilation outlets on top and a black spindle lock button.

The machine is activated with a paddle switch on the bottom of the grip that needs to be held to keep the machine running.

There is also an indented arrow that indicates the turning direction. There are threaded inserts on each side to attach the side handle.

The gear housing can be unscrewed from the body and attached in four different positions.

On the bottom of the gear housing is a 14 mm spindle or 5/8" in countries where that is more common. The disc is held in place with a lock nut for which a wrench is needed to loosen and tighten it.

Safety

Inside the gear housing is a mechanical clutch that Makita calls SJS (Super Joint System) that disconnects the gears when too much force is applied to protect the motor and gears from damage.
