LS1018 260mm slide compound miter saw

The LS1018 is corded electric slide compound miter saw manufactured by Makita.

It is powered by a 1430 watt brushed motor. Depending on the region it is sold in the cord has an appropriate power plug and voltage rating for 120 and 230 volt outlets.

It can cut up to 91 mm deep with a 260 mm saw blade. The saw blade can slide forward by pulling the handle to make cuts up to 305 mm long.

It is a compound saw meaning that it can do both miter and bevel cuts. It has a miter and  bevel range of 45° right and left.

Compared to the LS1016 the machine is significantly lighter and has can make slightly longer cuts. It is unclear how the cutting precision compares.

Exterior

The motor housing and handle are made out of "Makita teal" colored plastic. The handle is vertical and is covered in black rubber for better grip.

Behind the handle is another black handle for carrying the machine.

The top part of the blade guard is made out of one piece that connects to the hinge.

The bottom part of the saw blade is retractable and made out of blue transparent plastic.

On the back side there is a black dust bag, a vacuum can also be attached for dust extraction.

On both sides supports can slide out to help keep long work pieces in place. There is also a vertical vice to help clamp down the work piece.

The top part of the left fence can be moved pout of the way for to bevel cuts.

Operation

To activate the machine the lock button on top of the handle needs to be held down (with the thumb) while the trigger is being pushed (with the index finger).

If the machine is sold in Europe there is an additional lever blocking the trigger switch that needs to be be pushed left first.

At the front of the saw gutter there is a black handle that can be turned to adjust the miter angle.

Safety

The machine has a soft start feature and an an electric brake for a quick stop.
