DH18DBLQ4 18V 26mm cordless rotary hammer

The DH18DBLQ4 is a 18 volt cordless rotary hammer sold in the USA under the Metabo HTP brand.

The tool has brushless electric motor powered powered by a 18 or 18/36 multivolt battery.

The "Q4" suffix in the model name indicates that it is sold as a bare tool without battery and charger.

Exterior

The machine has a D-handle shaped body made out of green and black plastic.

The handle on the back side is covered in black rubber and has the a large variable speed trigger switch and a button to reverse the direction of rotation above/behind it.

The battery is placed under the rear handle and slides in from behind. In front of the handle (not visible in picture) is a battery charge indicator with push button.

In front of the handle is the motor housing with some vertical ventilation slots. On the front/bottom of the motor housing there is white LED that shines upwards at angle to illuminate the working area. It activates automatically and stays on for 10 seconds after the trigger is released.

The front part of the machine is black and has the mode selection dial on the side.

In front of that is a rotatable auxiliary handle with depth gauge and a black SDS plus chuck.

Operation

The machine is activated with the black trigger switch on the handle. The turning direction can be reversed with the push button on the sides behind the trigger.

The knob to select the drill/hammer/combination mode has a lock button it that needs to be pressed to change the mode.

The side handle and depth gauge can be adjusted by twisting the side handle to loosen it.

The drill bit can be changed by pulling the grip on the SD chuck back while inserting or removing the bit.

Safety

The machine has a safety feature that Metabo HTP calls "Reactive Force Control" and works like a clutch; the machine will deactivate when too much resistance is encountered that would otherwise result in kickback.
