G18DSL2Q4 18V 115mm angle grinder

The G18DSL2Q4 is a 18 volt cordless angle grinder sold in the USA under the Metabo HTP brand.

The tool has brushed electric motor powered powered by a 18 or 18/36 multivolt battery. Metabo HTP's website states it is a high torque motor but does not specify how much torque the tool can deliver.

The "Q4" suffix in the model name indicates that it is sold as a bare tool without battery and charger.

Exterior

The machine has a green plastic body with a large part of the middle section covered in black rubber for better grip.

On the top and bottom are round black covers to provide access to the motor brushes.

A battery slides in from the top on the back side. The machine can stand upright on its battery. Above the battery is the ability to attach a safety cord to catch the machine when falling. On the sides there are ventilation inlets. On the bottom (not visible in picture) there is a battery charge indicator with push button.

On the side of the body towards the front is a black slide switch. Right in front of that is an aluminium gear housing with a threaded hole on each side for a side handle.

On the gear housing there are ventilation outlets, a black spindle lock button and a an arrow that indicates the turning direction.

On the underside there is a black wheel guard with the spindle for cutting discs with 22 mm hole diameter. The Manual does not specify the size of the spindle itself but 5/8" is most common for this type of grinders in North America.

Operation

The machine is activated by pushing the slide switch forward.

To replace the cutting disc the spindle lock button has to be pressed while the locking but is loosened with the included wrench.

To adjust the wheel guard a Philips head screwdriver is needed.

The battery charge level can be checked with a push button on the underside of the body.

Safety

The slide switch has a "quick off" feature, the "off" setting is spring loaded and when the switch is pressed on the back while in the on position it swill snap to the "off" position. The machine does not have a brake, so it will still take some time for the cutting disc to come to a stop.

The machine has anti restart protection. This means that when a battery is inserted with the switch in the "on" position it will not activate until the switch is first moved to the "off" position.
