The Metabo 18 volt Lithium Ion battery system was introduced in 2009. In 2021 there were about 100 Metabo different power tools available for this battery system.
The battery packs contain five 3.6 volt 18650 Lithium Ion cells in series, or ten cells with two series of five cells placed in parallel.
Battery management system
Metabo 18 volt battery packs contain a battery management system that Metabo calls Ultra-M. This system measures the temperature and power draw of individual cells inside the battery pack.
Compatibility
In 2020 the Cordless Alliance System (CAS) was introduced which is based on the Metabo 18 volt battery system. All 18 volt Metabo devices are fully compatible with this cross vendor system as it is based on the Metabo system but allows other brands to use it and sell batteries with their own branding.
The Metabo 18 volt battery system is not compatible with Metabo HTP 18-36 multivolt battery system.
