GAL 1830 W wireless battery charger

18V Cordless 12V Max

The GAL 1830 W is a wireless battery charger for Bosch Professional batteries.

According to Bosch this charger is part of the world's first wireless charging system. It is assumed Bosch means for power tools. In December 2021 there were no other tool manufacturers who offer a similar system.

According to Bosch this system adds convenience and efficiency by never having to replace batteries if the tool is placed on the charger between use. Also the fact that there are no exposed electrical contacts makes it more suitable than a regular charger in environments with more dust and water exposure.

The downside of using a wireless charger are longer charging times and more limited battery compatibility.

Compatibility

The charger can only charge Bosch Professional batteries that are suitable for wireless charging. These battery packs have the letter "W" at the end of their name.

Bosch has one wireless 2.5 Ah 12 volt battery and a 2.0 Ah 18 volt wireless battery, both can use the same wireless chargers.

Exterior

The charger has a black plastic housing which is shaped like a flat rectangle with rounded corners. A black power cord is permanently attached to the back.

On the top side there is circular pattern and some grooves to indicate where the battery should be placed. The battery should be placed in the center, upright and can be by itself of still attached to a tool body. The battery can be placed at any angle as long as the middle of the battery and charger are roughly centered.

When a battery is placed on the charger it will automatically start to charge and the battery charge indicator consisting out of five green LEDs will light up to indicate it is charging and how full the battery currently is.

If there is a problem, like the battery is not placed correctly on the charger a red warning LED will blink.

Mounting frame

Included with the charger is a blue plastic mounting frame that allows the charger to be mounted to a wall or other surface with some screws. When the mounting frame is used the battery can only slide in from the front and not be rotated. For this reason when mounting it on a vertical service the charger has to be mounted with the logo upside down and the indicator LEDs

It will also be kept in place when vibrations could otherwise make the battery fall off, for example when charging in a moving vehicle.
