GAL 1830 W-DC wireless vehicle charger

18V Cordless 12V Max

The GAL 1830 W-DC is a wireless battery charger for use in vehicles for Bosch Professional batteries.

The charger is a variant of the GAL 1830 W but instead of having a plug that goes into a wall outlet this charger comes with a power brick containing electronic circuitry to convert the power from the 12 volt plug that can inserted in the cigarette lighter of a vehicle.

The weight of 600 listed here is only for the charger and is without the weight of the power brick.

Compatibility

The charger can only charge Bosch Professional batteries that are suitable for wireless charging. These battery packs have the letter "W" at the end of their name.

Bosch has one wireless 2.5 Ah 12 volt battery and a 2.0 Ah 18 volt wireless battery, both can use the same wireless chargers.

Exterior

The charger has a black plastic housing which is shaped like a flat rectangle with rounded corners. A black power cord is permanently attached to the back.

On the top side there is circular pattern and some grooves to indicate where the battery should be placed. The battery should be placed in the center, upright and can be by itself of still attached to a tool body. The battery can be placed at any angle as long as the middle of the battery and charger are roughly centered.

When a battery is placed on the charger it will automatically start to charge and the battery charge indicator consisting out of five green LEDs will light up to indicate it is charging and how full the battery currently is.

If there is a problem, like the battery is not placed correctly on the charger a red warning LED will blink.

Power brick

The power brick has a black rectangular aluminium housing with holes for mounting it to a surface using screws. The power cord to the charger has a detachable connector to that the cable can be routed through openings slightly large than the connector.

Holster

While the GAL 1830 W comes with a mounting frame the GAL 1830 W-DC is often sold with a charging holster.

The holster can be mounted to a horizontal or vertical surface with screws. The charger is placed in the holster and then a cordless drill with battery can be placed inside it to charge, and will stay in place when the vehicle is moving yet provide quick access to the tool.
