GAX 18V-30 dual battery charger

The GAX 18V-30 is a dual port battery charger made by Bosch for different battery system used by Bosch Professional tools.

The charger can charge batteries for 10.8/12V Max, 14.4V and 18V batteries at 3 Ampere. It also has a 5 volt USB-A port for charging other devices like mobile phones at a maximum current of 2.1 Ampere.

In 2021 it was the most versatile charger in the Bosch Professional product line. The only batteries is cannot charger are the newer 36 volt batteries.

Charging sequence

Batteries are charged in sequence, meaning when two batteries are placed on the charger only one will charge at a time. When the first battery is charged the next one will automatically start.

The USB port does not have this limitation will charge simultaneous with a battery.

Charging speed

Although it can charge batteries at a a respectable 3.0 Ampere it lacks in charging speed compared to newer chargers like the GAL 18V-40 that does 4.0 Ampere. Modern fast chargers go up to 8.0 or even 16.0 Ampere.

Bosch lists the charging times to 80% and 100% separately but unlike newer chargers this one does not change the charging current once battery reaches 80% capacity.

Exterior

The charger has a roughly rectangular black plastic housing with rounded edges and bulges.

On the left side is a receptacle for a 10.8V/12V max battery in which a battery is be placed upside down. On the right is receptacle for 14.4 and 18 volt batteries which are placed upside down at an incline and slide in from behind/top.

In front of each receptacle is a green LED that acts as a charge indicator and a red LED that acts as a warning indicator.

On the front in the center between is a single USB-A port.

On the sides and back are vertical ventilation slits.

The charger comes with a wall mount adapter that can be used to secure it on a flat surface using screws.
