WH36DBQ4 36V cordless impact driver

18-36 multivolt Cordless Drilling & fastening Impact driver

The WH36DBQ4 is a heavy duty cordless impact driver sold in the USA under the Metabo HTP brand.

The tool has brushless electric motor powered by a 36 volt battery or the Multivolt AC-adapter.

The "Q4" suffix in the model name indicates that it is sold as a bare tool without battery and charger.

The tool has a waterproof rating of IP56 which means it can withstand jets of water from any direction but cannot be submerged.

The tool is advertised as a "triple hammer" impact driver. The hammer is a spring loaded ring that strikes the anvil on the axle of the bit holder. In most impact drivers the hammer and anvil touch on two places, in this case they touch in three places making for more impacts per rotation.

The impact driver has four selectable work modes that are referred to as "tightening modes" in the manual but since they can also be used for loosening we refer to them as work modes:

  1. Delicate: 900 RPM
  2. Normal: 2900 RPM
  3. Heavy workload: 2900 RPM
  4. Self drilling screw tightening: 2900 RPM

Although the last three modes have the same maximum RPM according to the manual the rotation speed when the trigger is partially pressed varies in these different work modes.

Exterior

The tool has a plastic green housing covered with black rubber around the handle, back and sides. The handle is placed in the middle under the motor for better tool balance.

The battery slides in on in from the front under the handle and there is an optional metal belt hook attached to the side with a screw.

At the top of the handle is a white LED that illuminates the working area. The LED can be set to on, off or automatic with a switch at the bottom of the handle.

In front of the motor housing is the hammer case of which the front seems to be covered in a black rubber.

At the very front there is the 1/4" hex bit sleeve.

Operation

The machine is activated by pressing the black variable speed trigger switch. Above it is a black push button on each side to reverse the turning direction.

On the bottom of in front of the handle there is a button to change the mode of the LED. At the side there is a switch to set the work mode.

To release the bit the bit holder sleeve has to be pulled forward.
