Bosch Bosch Professional 18V battery system
The 18 volt battery system used by Bosch Professional tools.
The battery packs contain five 3.6 volt 18650 Lithium-Ion cells in series to produce 18 volt output. When fully charged the voltage can reach up to 20 volts but during use voltage is around 18 volt.
Some high capacity battery packs contain double the mount of cells to increase the capacity, allowing the tool to be used longer.
ProCORE batteries
Some batteries in the 18V system feature the "ProCORE" branding or simply "CORE" in North America. ProCORE batteries use higher capacity cells than regular battery packs.
For example a regular battery pack with a capacity of 4.0 Ah contains ten 18650 cells with a capacity 2.0 Ah. The ProCORE pack contains larger 21700 cells with a capacity of 4.0 Ah each. Because only five cells are needed for the same capacity the battery pack is significantly smaller.
Wireless charging
One unique feature in this battery system is that there are batteries and chargers available that support wireless charging using induction. This allows the battery to be charged by placing it on the charger while still inserted in the tool.
Compatibility
The 18 volt system is not compatible with any other systems, including the Power for ALL 18V system, which only works with Bosch Home & Garden tools, not Professional ones.
